If your child is absent, please call (815) 547-3006 to let the school know.

Our class will have art once a week for 50 minutes.

If you would like to have breakfast at school, you will pay for this the same way that you do for lunch.  Your child will pick up a “breakfast bag” on their way to our classroom and they will eat it in the classroom during the first 10-15 minutes of arrival.

BEE BOOKS help keep us organized.  Treat them with care!

Your child will be scheduled to bring a birthday treat on or near their birthday.  You may send a special snack on this day, such as, cookies or cupcakes.  Please do not send a birthday cake.  Remember that all treats and snacks need to be store bought and cannot be made from home.

I will send home book order forms for you and your child to look over every month.  Book clubs offer books at reduced prices.  It's a great way to build your child's home library!   You can order online at www.scholastic.com.  Username: ProppKindergarten Password: Kishwaukee

The school bus can be an area of anxiety for parents.  I want to help you feel more comfortable with this.  For the first few weeks of school, I will walk each and every child to their bus.  When they are ready, I will walk them to the buses and watch as they walk to their specific bus.  We work together with the bus drivers to make sure that each child gets to the correct place every day!

Parent and Teacher conferences are held on November 3th and 10th.

Communication is important.  Feel free to contact me whenever you have a question, comment, or concern.  You can reach me by phone (815-547-3006) in person, by email (mpropp@district100.com), or by note.

We will follow our school’s  Code of Conduct  when practicing our best behavior.  Kishwaukee Spirit: Respect self, others and school.

After a few weeks of school, you will receive a Classroom Directory including all of the students contact information.  This information should be used to send birthday invitations, as they will not be delivered at school.

Discipline is simple. We work hard as a class to make the classroom a positive and safe place for all.  We will be using the stoplight system.  All students begin on green light.  Students move to yellow light when they do not follow a rule, they then move to red light if they continue this or another inappropriate behavior. Movement to a yellow or red light will result in the loss of a privilege.  A red light will result in a note home.  This note will need to be signed and returned to school the following day.

My school email address is mpropp@district100.com.  I check email daily.  Email is a very efficient way to contact me and get a quick response.

Information about field trips will come home in the BEE book and will be detailed in the field trip permission slip and weekly newsletter.

Our class will have 25 minutes of gym class every day.  The children will need to wear athletic shoes each day for gym class.

Students will have homework in Kindergarten.  Homework is intended to help your child practice the skills that they are learning at school. Homework assignments will vary and will be sent home in the BEE book.  Unless otherwise noted, please return the homework the following day.  It is important for your child to form good homework habits beginning right now.

Independence is a goal for students because it builds self-esteem and self-confidence.  Kindergarteners are very capable of doing many things on their own and I encourage them to do as much as they can for themselves in the classroom.  Please work on the following self-help skills at home with your child:  zipping, tying, dressing, etc.

Keep updated by checking the classroom website, reading the classroom newsletter every week and checking the Bee book every day for other notes and information.

Our class will visit the library once a week. Your child will check out a book when we visit the library and return it within the following week.  If your child forgets to return the book, they will not be allowed to check out a new book until it is returned.

Your child has two choices for lunch.  You can send a cold lunch in a lunch box marked with your child’s name on it.  This needs to be a ready to eat lunch as we will not be storing it in a refrigerator or heating it up for the child.  Your child can purchase a milk to have with their cold lunch.   Your child can also purchase a hot lunch from the school.  I will ask the students for their lunch choices each morning.  If lunch money is sent to school, please send it in the BEE book.  There is a pencil pocket pouch for this purpose that is located in the front of the BEE book.  I encourage you to send money for the entire week or month if possible.

The children will have music class twice a week for 25 minutes.

A weekly newsletter will be sent home on Fridays to keep you informed about what is happening in our class.

Open House will be coming up during the first couple months of school.  This is a great time to come to school, meet all of your child’s teachers and let your child show you around.

When picking up your child, please make sure to sign them out in the office.  Please make sure to notify the school ahead of time.  We take our students out for dismissal a few minutes before the rest of the school (usually 2:00) in order to help the students get to the correct places.
